Olympic Glory: Indian Men’s Hockey Team Wins Bronze at Paris olympics 2024
The Indian men’s hockey team has once again made the country proud by winning the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics. This achievement marks another glorious chapter in India’s rich hockey history.
In a thrilling match at the Paris Olympics 2024, the Indian men’s hockey team secured a 2-1 victory over Spain to clinch the bronze medal. Captain Harmanpreet Singh was the star of the match, scoring both goals for India after they were initially trailing 0-1. Spain took the lead in the second quarter through a penalty stroke by Marc Miralles, but Harmanpreet leveled the scores just before halftime with a powerful drag flick. He then sealed the victory with a second goal in the third quarter, slipping a low drag flick into the Spanish goal.
After narrowly missing out on a medal in a tense game against Germany, India fought hard to replicate their success from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where they also won bronze. The victory is dedicated to veteran goalkeeper Sreejesh, with both Harmanpreet and Manpreet Singh acknowledging his crucial role in the team’s journey. India’s strong performance against Spain continues their recent dominance, reflected in their higher FIH ranking of fifth compared to Spain’s eighth.
PR Sreejesh announced his retirement – It was his last hockey match
In an emotional tribute after India’s victory over Spain to secure the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, Manpreet Singh dedicated the win to veteran goalkeeper PR Sreejesh. He stated, “We want to dedicate this medal to PR Sreejesh because this was his last ride. I’ve spent 13 years with him, we’ve both seen a lot. This Bronze medal is dedicated to PR Sreejesh from the whole team.”
Manpreet expressed his pride in the team’s achievement, saying, “It feels great to have secured another Bronze. We wanted to win the final but we unfortunately lost in the semis, but the team performed really well throughout the Olympics. We’re not going empty-handed, we’re taking the Bronze back.” He also extended heartfelt thanks to the supporters back home, adding, “We want to thank India for their support, it was phenomenal. Thank you so much.”
This heartfelt dedication underscores the bond and shared journey between the teammates, particularly highlighting Sreejesh’s invaluable contributions over the years
