President of India to Confer 5th National Water Awards 2023

The Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, will present the 5th National Water Awards 2023 on October 22, 2024, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. These awards are organized by the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD & GR), under the Ministry of Jal Shakti. On October 14, 2024, the Ministry announced the 38 winners for these awards in various categories.

The National Water Awards aim to recognize the excellent work done by individuals and organizations in promoting water conservation and management. These awards highlight efforts towards achieving the government’s vision of a ‘Jal Samridh Bharat’ (Water-Rich India).

Categories and Winners

The awards cover nine categories:

  1. Best State: Odisha won the first prize, Uttar Pradesh secured the second position, and Gujarat and Puducherry shared the third position.
  2. Best District
  3. Best Village Panchayat
  4. Best Urban Local Body
  5. Best School or College
  6. Best Industry
  7. Best Water User Association
  8. Best Institution (other than school or college)
  9. Best Civil Society

Each winner will receive a citation, a trophy, and cash prizes in certain categories.

Promoting Water Conservation

Under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister, the Ministry of Jal Shakti has been running a comprehensive campaign to raise awareness about the importance of water management and conservation. This Awards, first launched in 2018, play a vital role in motivating people to adopt the best water practices.

The 2nd, 3rd, and 4th National Water Awards were given in 2019, 2020, and 2022 respectively. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards were not presented in 2021.

By celebrating the winners’ efforts, the National Water Awards inspire others to work toward the sustainable use of water, ensuring a bright future for the nation.
